Aïda is visual and performance artist. Her exhibition “WAR and PEACE” presents recent drawing and painting which continue her exploration of mark making in pencil and acrylic mediums.
“She is continually motivated by the creative ways that children approach mark making, where they are not weighed down by art historical references or pictographic traditions, nor by concerns for likeness and so-called ‘accuracy of representation.’ While Aïda’s efforts to problematize this logic find inspiration in their approach, it is situated within her own highly developed technique and formal understanding.” Michael DiRisio of Modern Fuel Artist Run Centre 2017
While referencing the land and the animal kingdom, Aïda’s work questions what it is to be human.
The exhibition also features text by Kingston author Melanie Dugan, written while in conversation with Aïda during the creation of this work.
