China star rising.
For the past years, a number of Canadians have been instrumental in organizing an international art residency program in China. This October will be its fifth session. The initiative was formulated by Gordon Novak and Liu Jian with the gracious and generous assistance of Tri-Art Mfg.
Professor Jeffrey Spalding is the senior artist and artistic director of the project. He will report on the project and its objectives. He will bring news of the rising importance of China within international contemporary art.
Once we looked to Paris. Then. New York. Or perhaps Berlin. But now it is Beijing.
It is Beijing and China's time.
Jeffrey J. Spalding will be reporting on the Artist Residency program in Taohuatan, China, coming up this October. This is an incredible opportunity for emerging, mid career and professional artists to work in a rural environment rich with Chinese culture and history. I encourage you all to come out to hear his talk on the residency, and the China impact as a rising star in the contemporary art cosmos.
I attended this residency last October. It changed the trajectory of my art practice, introduced me to a wealth of inspiration through not only the landscape and culture, but through interaction and collaboration with artists from all over the world, working in a variety of styles and disciplines. For any artist, the luxury of having the time and space to produce art, uninterrupted, in a stimulating environment, in unparalleled. I cannot recommend this residency more highly!
